What is Match Day?

Match Day is Pitch Planner's free youth soccer substitution tracker. It helps coaches build a lineup, plan rotations, run a live match clock, track player minutes, log events, and review a post-game recap from one phone.

How do you track equal playing time?

Set a playing-time target before kickoff, start the match clock, and tap each substitution as it happens. Pitch Planner works as an equal playing time tracker, showing who is on target, short, or over.

Does it work on the sideline?

Yes. Match Day is built for mobile browsers, big tap targets, screen wake-lock, and offline match flow. Coaches can use it during a real game without downloading an app or managing a spreadsheet.

Why use a tracker

Substitution tracker vs spreadsheet vs paper chart.

Spreadsheets and rotation charts can work before the match. They break when a player arrives late, gets hurt, needs a rest, or a coach has to make a quick tactical change.

Best fit

Paper rotation chart

Good for pre-game planning, weak once substitutions change.

Spreadsheet

Good for season summaries, awkward on a sideline during live play.

Rotation planner

Plan every substitution before kick-off.

Pick a rotation interval (6, 8, or 10 minutes) and match length. Pitch Planner generates a full substitution schedule that balances minutes evenly across your roster.

The plan runs as a visual timeline. Override any slot by hand, the planner rebalances around your change. Amber "sub now" dots at every transition so you never miss a swap.

Live match

The clock, the subs, the stats.

Big monospaced clock at the top. Per-player minutes ticking in a list. One tap pauses every clock at the same instant, for water breaks, knocks, or a ref stoppage. Two taps to sub, the match clock keeps running.

Goals, assists, and cards log without leaving the match view. Screen wake-lock keeps your phone on. Works offline, syncs later.

  • Tap-to-pause halts every counter at once
  • Amber pulse when a player is over target
  • Offline-first, syncs when Wi-Fi returns
  • One-handed, thumb-sized buttons

Equal playing time

Set a minimum. Keep minutes fair.

Pick a target percentage: 40, 50, or 60% of the match. Pitch Planner tracks every player's time against it, live. Green bar means they've hit the target. Amber bar means they're short.

At the end of the match, anyone who fell short is flagged automatically in the recap so you know who to start next week. Season totals roll up across every match.

Post-match recap

The recap writes itself.

When the final whistle blows, the post-match recap is already done. Final score, per-player minutes, goals, assists, cards, target-percentages, and playing-time flags.

Goal timeline runs down the card. Player-of-the-match picks itself based on minutes + goal contributions. Export the whole match to CSV for your own records.
